Promethazine- or why I should trust my research skills over the label on the bottle
I've been having some bone pain that varies from annoying to can't sleep or think well. It's a side effect of the Neulasta. So I've been doing the tylenol thing mostly, but it wasn't working great, and wanted to try the pain medication prescribed by my oncologist - promethazine. I had done some research and was confused because it's mostly listed as an anti-nausea, but the bottle said to take for pain. Ok, I'm not an MD, so I did just that this morning. Ten minutes later and I'm broken out in a cold sweat, nauseous and almost passing out on the bathroom floor. Actually I'm sitting on the floor in case I pass out, been there. I didn't pass out, but I went to bed for pretty much the entire morning. Got up and I'm still light headed, feel like passing out. This is not something I like. Recalled Will from his travels to obtain fortifications. Called the doc on call. He says, "you took the promethazine for what?" I'm like "pain, like it says on the bottle," And he says no, that's an anti nausea medicine; it was prescribed incorrectly, and the side effects are just about as you listed. Actually he was much more eloquent and very nice. He also said he would pass our conversation on to my doc, who I liked, but has fallen in favor. Grrr.
My morals of the story (1) trust yourself and your research skills (duh!) (2) don't take promethazine again.
Also, I am feeling much better! Now to get the work done I was supposed to do this morning :-)
