Goodbye hair, hello head!

My hair started coming out in clumps Sunday, so it was time to shave.  Did I mention I have an amazing husband? Yeah, he chopped (cut!) my hair off, then shaved it down- he used a #3 for all you who know how that works, I didn't. He did a great job, prepared by cutting his cousins hair (they returned the favor) for several summers during childhood/early teens. Thanks to Will's dad and Uncle Vaughn for preparing him for this. Ha. We also joked that this was an unforseen event, and one not included in the vows. I don't recommend putting "I promise to shave your head when necessary" in, but we decided it probably fell under the very general "in sickness and in health".

I probably could have waited, but after the clump came out, I decided that was way worse than shaving it down, and I'm really happy with it! Reds cap on Monday for opening day of course. And I found a "buff" or whatever you want to call those tubes of knit fabric that you can wear like 8 ways that I bought in Germany to use as a head band. It makes an awesome, easy, head covering. So this is my go to while I look clumpy, as the hair continues to fall out, now in tiny little, less traumatizing pieces. I'm thinking lots of sunscreen and going bald soon, plus hats for added sun protection, or whatever funky, fun thing I find next.

Top three reasons to shave your head:
3) No bed head or hat head, this means I can roll right of bed with great hair (or soon lack there of!)
2) Super fast showers
1) Save money on shampoo and conditioner

On a related note, I feel really good. Working is back to normal, and with some nice weather getting walks in as well as at least one trip to the gym. I was pretty exhausted after working out plus a full day of work Monday, so I might need to reevaluate a bit. More walking. Yoga too.

Chemo Wednesday, and we start again.

I will second Helene's comment. You look great! Bald is cool, don't you know.

Getting caught up on everything going on now. You will beat this, you are one of strongest persons I have ever known. Sending love from our part of the KY.

You look great! And I second all your bald benefits! Buffs are great, especially if it's getting hot. I also would use a scarf and basically just treat it like hair and pull it up into a "messy bun" with a hair tie. Super easy/fast.

Hope next chemo goes as well as it can. Good for you for staying up on the exercise...tons of evidence (like at the meta-analysis level) that it helps with pretty much everything (cancer-related fatigue, mood, recovery, blah blah blah).

Keep killing it. Literally (those damn cells) and figuratively.

I wish I knew the "right" thing to say here. I'm just now finding out about this and I am in awe of your spirit and your tenacity. You are my hero. So much has changed for you in such a short time but you are amazing and you are going to blow those cells away.
I will be praying for you during this next round of chemo and for all the road that is left to travel.
I agree about the buffs being a great addition to the wardrobe. We have a wide assortment of them in our house and they get used quite a bit.
Please don't hesitate to call if you need anything (even if it's just a conversation). I would love to help in a bigger way but I feel like my math degree and MBA are going to be much less helpful then your micro-biology knowledge. So hopefully I can find a way to be helpful in a less tactical manner (also not my strong suit).
Keep your head up and know that you are loved.

@Richard & Helene, thank you! Short hair and bald are both awesome; it's nice to have good role models on that!
@Anne, that is a great idea, thanks :-) I might have to grab a scarf or two after all.
@Ann, that was perfect, thank you! And I will. None of our training really prepares for this, but I think having the biology background helps in some ways. Tactical, :-)
@Aunt Lynn, thank you!
@Tom, yes! Might be a thing..
